In this unit we will look at how a computer stores data. The volume of data stored on a computer or in on-line file storage systems increase significantly every day. Whether this is on a mobile device, a smart phone, a laptop or a PC.

A computer is made up of billions of switches each with two states - an off position (0) and an on position (1). Known as binary, all data stored on a computer has to be converted to binary for the computer to be able to store or process into information.
