This A2 text consists of Aeneid 12.728-952, the finale of one of western literature's most famous, influential and popular works. It focuses on the last show down between the two opposing heroes, Aeneas and Turnus, on the planes of Latium.

Students will be expected to know the outline of the entire Aeneid and to have read the rest of Book XII in translation.

The text will explore the following themes:

• Virgil's depiction of war;
• the characterisation of Aeneas and Turnus;
• Virgil's style of writing.
