LO:  find the volume of  a cylinder

A cylinder is a prism with a cross-sectional area which is a circle - to find the volume you first find the area of the circle on the end (how many squares fit in the circle) using πr2  (where r = radius = distance from centre of circle to circumference) - then multiply by the length of the cylinder to count how many cubes would fit in the cylinder - this is described well on mymaths - follow the link below, you'll need school: aidans and password: square.  Click through buttons 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 on the Volume of Cylinders lesson and try out the questions:
